Evolutionary Morphology and Palaeobiology of Vertebrates

Fieldwork

Several members of our group have conducted palaeontological fieldwork, exploring rocks of different eras and in different countries. At the moment, most fieldwork is is related to a project of Marcelo Sánchez in the Cenozoic of Venezuela. This project has been going on for several years and was supported among others by the National Geographic Society. It concerns the palaeobiology of vertebrates in Venezuela mostly around 10-5 million years ago, the time just before the formation of the Panama bridge between South and North America. Previous fieldwork has taken Marcelo Sánchez to various localities in Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, USA, Egypt and most recently Switzerland.
